Red Dead Redemption 2 is Coming Fall 2017

Red Dead Redemption 2 Trailer Hits, Showcases the Gorgeous American Wilderness

After all of it’s cryptic twitter posts and internet buzz marketing, Rockstar games has finally confirmed what everyone suspected was coming. Red Dead Redemption 2 is in the works.

It feels like there has been a month long lead up to this announcement. What started out as a reissue of an old game on new platforms, Red Dead Revolver, turned into a silent picture of the Rockstar logo styled in the Red Dead colour theme, and then a picture evoking some very Magnificent Seven iconography comes to a head today.  Announced to release in Fall of 2017 what many people thought of as the game of the generation is getting a sequel.

Unfortunately, that’s really about all we know about the game thus far.  The teaser image shows seven figures (One in the foreground, likely the protagonist) silhouetted against a sunset, all looking pretty darn cowboy-y. It practically bleeds the classic, gritty western feel that was so prevalent in the old game. Whether or not this will see the last scion of the Marsten line or not, but I’m sure Rockstar will have plenty to tell us in the next year.

Luckily, we won’t have to wait long for some new information, as today’s announcement comes with the promise of a trailer coming to us on October 20th of this year. I imagine it will feature a lot of gritty western folk shooting at things, with music straight reminiscent of Ennio Morricone, but we’ll have to wait and see to be sure.

In a final, interesting not, it seems that Take-Two interactive will have some hand in all of this. A website for Red Dead Online was registered by the company this morning, which links back to Rockstar. The title Red Dead Online reminds me of previous online efforts with GTA V and makes me wonder if we’ll see such a robust online component in the upcoming cowboy adventure.
