Frictional Games has announced plans to bring Amnesia: The Dark Descent and its sequels to PlayStation 4 as part of Amnesia: Collection, a compilation of both the original game and its sequel, Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs and a lesser-known piece of DLC called Amnesia: Justine.
News of this comes from a post on the PlayStation Blog, where Frictional Games’ creative director Thomas Grip made the announcement that the Amnesia series would be making their console debut on PlayStation 4 on November 22nd.
Despite Frictional Games developing the original Amnesia: The Dark Descent, the sequel, A Machine for Pigs, was developed by British studio The Chinese Room instead, known best for its work on games like Dear Esther and Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture. Despite this, A Machine for Pigs will still be included in the Amnesia: Collection, as the game was developed with Frictional Games’ blessing and support.
Amnesia: The Dark Descent originally launched on PC, Mac, and Linux in 2010, with A Machine for Pigs following in 2013. In the PlayStation Blog post, Grip reminisces about the development process of the first game, explaining that the game almost never made its way to the platforms it did due to funding issues, which were miraculously solved by the studio’s previous games, the Penumbra series, going on sale and giving Frictional Games a new wave of money to use as the game’s budget. After taking salary cuts across the team and making a shift in direction with the game thanks to feedback the studio received from new fans of Penumbra, Frictional Games completed Amnesia: The Dark Descent in the 12 months that followed, and went on to become a successful horror franchise.
