Pokémon GO has received a brand new generation of Pokémon to check out. But amidst the latest update, several unanswered questions were left about the Pokémon headed to Pokémon GO and the ways in which second generation Pokémon eggs would hatch. A report by Express reveals how the second generation will work, at least as of its mid-December release.
First, Express reveals that Niantic has released seven baby Pokémon that can be hatched from eggs. According to /r/pokemongo, these Pokémon are: Igglybuff, Cleffa, Pichu, Togepi, Elekid, Magby and Smoochum. Pichu and Togepi, of course, were originally advertised as available Pokémon. But the other five included were left a mystery. Until now, that is.
Things get a little complicated when considering the requirements necessary to hatch the brand new eggs. Pokémon GO has players walk 2km with an egg before hatching Igglybuff and Cleffa; 5km for Pichu and Togepi; and 10km for Elekid, Magby and Smoochum. This roughly translates to 1.25 miles, 3.11 miles and 6.22 miles, respectively. While Igglybuff and Cleffa may be an easy hatch for an active user, Pichu, Togepi, Elekid, Magby and Smoochum may take some serious dedication. Pokémon GO players who are more likely to be physically active during the day, such as those living in college or commuting in major cities, may find these Pokémon easier to hatch than those living in suburban and rural areas.
Of course, players can only hold nine eggs at once, so it’s important to stay physically active and hatch eggs regularly. Lazy players won’t be getting any second generation Pokémon any time soon, essentially.
Niantic also hints that more Pokémon from the second generation will be coming “over the next few months.” Oh, and there’s a Pikachu wandering around wearing a Santa hat, available up until Dec. 29, 2016 at 10 AM PST. So it’s best to start getting physically active now, in the cold no less, for players who want to keep up with their Pokémon GO game.
