SuperData Reveals Video Game Software Sales Growth

The video game industry seems to be healthier than ever according to industry tracker SuperData.

SuperData published their research stating the global gaming industry’s digital revenue increased in the month of January 2017 by 9.8 per cent from 2016, bringing that number to $7.8 billion from $7.6 billion in December. This continues an upward trend near the tale end of last year that saw the industry grow 10 per cent in December.

This increase probably had something to do with a strong holiday line up of titles, but interestingly enough Rockstar’s 2013 smash hit Grand Theft Auto V is still on the board at the number two selling game for consoles. This shouldn’t be surprising, as the game has sold more than 70 million copies worldwide since its release.

What is surprising however is Zynga Poker’s resurgence, bringing in $13 million in revenue, marking the fourth straight month of growth for the title. While it didn’t crack the top 10 on SuperData’s list, they show this is a rather large growth, up 94 per cent from January 2016, and its conversion is the highest since Znga Poker’s launch in July 2007 at 4.9 per cent.

ARK: Survival Evolved stands out as the only non-AAA titles in the top 10 list, landing at number four. It actually lands ahead of titles like Battlefield 1, Destiny, NBA 2K17, and Destiny.
