One of the most successful films of 2016, both financially and critically, was Deadpool. Fans who have been pleading for more since that time will be delighted to know that an animated series is set to come to FXX.
According to a report by Variety, the series has not yet received an official title, the creators are set in stone. Donald Glover and Stephen Glover are both set to take the helm and, hopefully, produce a series that is as well received as the film.
Alongside the Glover brothers, Jeph Loeb and Jim Chory (producers at Marvel) will assist in the executive producer roles. As a whole, Marvel Television will be producing the untitled Deadpool animated series; in association with both ABC Signature Studios and FX Productions.
Details are sketchy on the ground, but it is expected that the show will debut in 2018 (with a first season that will span 10 episodes) as it has received a straight-to-series order. Ryan Reynolds portrayed the controversial Deadpool in the film adaptation, but there is no word currently on who will be responsible for the voice acting role; nor is there any word on who will voice certain characters.
The co-president of programming for FX, Nick Grad, did express his gratitude and excitement for having Donald Glover spearhead this series. “Donald Glover is an incredibly gifted and versatile artist who’ll bring the untitled Marvel’s Deadpool series to life with the same intense, singular vision as his breakout hit Atlanta,” Grad states. “With the success of Legion, we’re looking forward to again partnering with Marvel Television to create a series that is bold, striking and entirely original.”
There are several different ways that Deadpool, the character, can be explored; so, fans should be anxiously awaiting this animated adaptation.
