Vanquish Officially Announced for PC

Sega has officially announced a PC release for Vanquish, exclusively for Steam.

After numerous teases, Sega Europe officially announced their third person shooter Vanquish will be available on PC via Steam on May 25, 2017. A Digital Deluxe Edition will be available for those who purchase Vanquish before the game’s release day. This deluxe version includes a five track soundtrack sampler, character and enemy avatars, a digital art book and exclusive wallpapers. In addition, owners of the Steam version of Bayonetta will automatically receive a 25 per cent discount when pre-purchasing Vanquish. Teases for the PC release of Vanquish were originally found after an update was made to the PC port of Bayonetta, adding hidden Vanquish avatars to the game’s folder. Sega Europe then began tweeting cryptic pictures, further hinting at the release of Vanquish.

The release of Vanquish on PC will add to Sega’s growing collection of converted PC titles. Sega released Typing of the Dead on PC in 2013. The game came with many new features, including a full port of the PlayStation 3 version of House of the Dead. The previously exclusive PlayStation 3 title Valkyria Chronicles was remastered for a PC in 2014, revitalizing the series’ popularity, prompting Sega to bring the game to PlayStation 4 as well. Bayonetta released on the platform this April, allowing PC players to experience the title for the first time since its release in 2009.

Vanquish originally released in 2010 for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. The game was developed by Platinum Games and published by Sega. Directed by Shinji Mikami of Resident Evil fame, Vanquish has players control Sam Gideon, a DARPA agent equipped with a special augmented reaction suit as he defends a near future USA against an attack from the Russian Federation. The game is a fast-paced third person shooter, notable for bringing a few unique features to the genre such as a sliding-boost mechanic. The game received positive reception from critics, being praised for its fast pace, innovative gameplay mechanics and visual style. Most criticisms for Vanquish were directed towards its writing, voice acting and overall short campaign length.
