Nintendo has officially announced the follow up to the NES Classic with the SNES Classic.
Earlier in the year, a report from Eurogamer heralded the existence of a SNES Classic, mini console. The report outlined that the SNES Classic would hit sometime in the holiday season of 2017, which now can be confirmed with Nintendo officially stating that the SNES Classic will launch on September. 29, 2017. The SNES Classic will sell for a suggested retail price of $79.99 USD ($99.99 CAD).
The SNES Classic will include 21 titles prebuilt into the mini console. Games such as Super Mario World, Earthbound and the never released title, Star Fox 2 will be included. Just like the NES Classic prior, the SNES Classic will utilize a small form factor and rely on accurate emulation in order to deliver an experience akin to playing on a real Super Nintendo.
The console will use HDMI and support faithfully recreated SNES style gamepads that connect up to the main unit via wired connection. Interestingly, from looking at photography provided via the press release for the upcoming SNES Classic, it appears that the console will have standard SNES controller inputs, rather than the Wii Nunchuk style connectors that the NES Classic utilized. This may allude to the SNES Classic being backwards compatible with authentic SNES controllers as they share the same ports. The full list of titles available on the SNES Classic will include:
