Robot Entertainment announced today that their comedic free-to-play action tower defense game will release in July.

Robot Entertainment’s free-to-play title, Orcs Must Die! Unchained, will release on July 18, 2017, on PlayStation 4. In Orcs Must Die! Unchained, players will be able to play as powerful classes such as the war mage, magical sorceress, or brutal blackpaw. A lineup of other heroes will also be unlockable, each with unique powers and abilities. Players have the option to team up in groups of three, protecting the key to their fortress by building traps against the invading orcs. Orcs Must Die! Unchained offers a variety of game types and difficulty levels, including classic “Survival Mode” and “Sabotage Mode”, where players can go head-to-head. A teaser trailer for Orcs Must Die! Unchained was released today, showing off a bit of the game’s humour.

Orcs Must Die! began as an Xbox Live Arcade title in 2011.  It followed the same tower defense variant gameplay, presenting itself from a third-person standpoint rather than being top-down. Orcs Must Die! sold over 50 thousand units on Xbox, selling substantially more after releasing on PC only a few days later. A sequel was released a year later exclusively on PC, titled Orcs Must Die! 2.

Orcs Must Die! Unchained is the third instalment in the Orcs Must Die! franchise. Originally announced in 2014, Orcs Must Die! Unchained released in as a beta version during the same year on PC. It wasn’t until April of this year that the game saw a final release for PC.

The addition of Orcs Must Die! Unchained will continue the growing list of free-to-play titles on the PlayStation 4. Recent titles include games such as Marvel Heroes Omega, Marvel’s free-to-play dungeon crawling MMO by Gazillion Entertainment. It will also be joining Let it Die, the free-to-play hack and slash developed by Grasshopper Manufacture and Published by Gungho Online.
