Sharpen your pencils and get out your pens, Netflix has just announced the premiere date of its Death Note adaptation. The movie is set to premiere worldwide on Aug 25, 2017.
The film is being directed by Adam Wingard of Blair Witch and You’re Next fame.
For those unfamiliar with Death Note, the series stars a high-school boy who discovers a notebook belonging to a god of death. Any person’s name that is written in the book while the writer thinks of the person’s face will result in that person’s death. Using his new found power, the boy sets out on a quest to deliver his own brand and idea of justice on the world. Along the way, the boy has to evade a cunning detective who promises that he will stop the boy. The trailer for Netflix’s adaptation can be seen below.
Announced way back in April of last year, eager fans finally have a countdown to wait for. After being dropped by Warner Bros. Netflix swooped in and picked up the film. Since then the film entered production as of June 2016.
Death Note has multiple adaptations already in Japan. Having an anime adaptation by Madhouse, a live-action movie series, and even a musical adaptation, Netflix’s adaptation is looking to be one of the most unique versions yet.
