A Hat In Time will be hitting the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One this fall, thanks to a new publishing initiative from Humble Bundle.
For those unfamiliar with the game, A Hat In Time first launched through the use of KickStarter all the way back in 2013. The core promise of the game was to deliver a fun 3D platformer that harkened back to the days of classic platformers such as Super Mario 64 and Banjo-Kazooie. The KickStarter campaign proved successful as the game beat its goal within three days of the campaign going live.
A Hat In Time lets players step into the tiny shoes of the series protagonist, Hat Kid, a small girl donning a magical time traveling hat. While trying to go home, Hat Girl’s ship encounters the dastardly Mafia who break into her ship, causing all her time fuel to shatter and disseminate across the game world.
Players must aide Hat Girl in collecting the broken pieces of her fuel, known as Time Pieces in the game, in order to help her get home. Gameplay wise, the title plays similarly to classic N64 era 3D platformers. Players get to explore large and open levels which contain an assortment of collectibles, enemies and secrets.
Some levels allow Hat Girl to use her umbrella to fight the ever dangerous Mafia. Defeating said enemy grants players with experience points that can then be used to level up Hat Girl. Early actions in the game also have an effect on the end game, with levels changing based on what the player does early on.
Overall, A Hat in Time is shaping up to be fun throwback title, reminiscent of classic 3D platformers of the 90s and early 2000s, hopefully with the polish of modern gaming concessions.
A Hat In Time will be out sometime this Fall, with no definitive release date announced at this time.
