Blizzard Has Updated Warcraft III With New 1.28.6 PTR

It’s been 15 years since Blizzard released Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos, just a few days ago, the classic and renowned title got an update in the form of the 1.28.6 patch.

From Blizzard’s official post on their forums a list of changes have been posted regarding the new update, essentially the new patch rebalances the game, updates old textures, and just overall gives Warcraft III a new lease on life. The biggest change that comes with the 1.28.6 PTR is balance, starting with the balance of the title from early to end game content, the creep campy difficulty has been tweaked. Additionally, the drop tables for early to late game has also been tweaked and rebalanced.

speaking of drops, the item diversity in the game has also been reworked and improved.

All the start locations have been tweaked, specifically the starting distance from lumber, spacing, expansion, and more.

Points of interest have also been tidied up, meaning the size of trees and other miscellaneous objects have been reduced, making the game easier to see and less visually noisy.

UI elements such as the map have also been re-textured, ensuring the game looks good on more modern monitors and displays. aesthetically, the cliff lines /deep water edges within in the game have reworked, removing the hard edges making the game feel more immersive and visually appealing. additionally, the rolling shoreline waves from rolling hill have been removed to further tidy up presentation and clarity.

Finally a host of new maps and changes have also been introduced in the new patch, they include:

A 1V1, 2v2, 3v3, 4V4 and a FFA Map Pool.

Overall, it is nice to see Blizzard give some love to some of their older titles, the last major update for Warcraft III dropped in 2009, the Westfall update. Those interested in downloading the new update can do those so from the official forum thread on Blizzard’s official forum page.
