Valve Confirms No Steam Dev Days Event For 2017

PC gamers looking forward to Steam Dev Days this year will be disappointed as the company has stated the event will not take place this year.

In a response to a question asked on Twitter, Tom Giardino of Valve confirmed that their Steam Dev Days event will not be happening this year. Giardino also stated that it’s unlikely that the event will happen in 2018 either.

Definitely not in 2017 and not very likely for 2018. What sort of things would you want to hear about at any future Valve events or talks?

— Tom Giardino (@tomgvalve) September 25, 2017

Steam Dev Days is a conference held by Valve where the company speaks with many of the developers working on its platforms. Valve showcases a lot of their own tech as well, along with other projects during the event. Valve’s first conference was held in 2014 where the company first showed of its Steam Machines, pre-built gaming computers designed to run on Valve’s unique operating system which works through Steam. Valve also holds keynote events and discusses the company’s development philosophies.

Although it’s disappointing that there won’t be a Steam Dev Days conference this year, it isn’t all that surprising. Valve opted to skip the event in 2015, saying that company didn’t have anything to show. The company took the opportunity to reveal the HTC Vive at last year’s conference. It stands to reason that if Valve plans to take two years off from holding another conference, the company may be working on something big for next time.

We’ve reached out to Valve in order to hopefully find out a bit more on why Steam Dev Days won’t be happening.
