Andrew House, President and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, is leaving the position and will be replaced the John Kodera, currently serving as Deputy President.
House announced his stepping down earlier today, expressing gratitude to the company and his confidence in Kodera.
“I shall always treasure the friendships and people that have made SIE such a wonderful place to work. I’m also grateful to PlayStation fans and gamers around the world for their loyalty and support. John and the team at SIE are world-class and I know the future of PlayStation is very bright,” House said in a prepared statement.
House has been President since 2011, and under his guidance the PlayStation brand experienced a massive resurgence, currently dominating the home console market with more than 62 million units sold, according to CGChartz. Console sales are expected to reach 78 million by March 2018, and is expanding quicker than any previous PlayStation platform. House was the mastermind behind the strategy that catapulted the console into the top position in living rooms worldwide, outselling its major competitor, the Xbox One, by nearly three to one.
Kodera will begin work as President effective immediately, while House will remain as Director and Chairman of Sony Interactive Entertainment until the end of 2017. Kazuo Hirai, president and CEO, Sony Corporation, expressed his confidence in Kodera’s ability to lead the PlayStation division following the exit of House.
“John Kodera has led Sony’s network service business since 2013 and played a pivotal role in its growth. He is a truly global executive, possessing strategic understanding, strength of conviction and outstanding leadership capabilities. Since his appointment as Deputy President of SIE last year, alongside Andy he has also been responsible for the company’s overall business strategy and product planning. With the significance of network services increasing across the entire Sony Group, I believe that John is ideally equipped to build on the foundations Andy has left in place, and drive Sony’s game and network services business to further growth and excitement going forward,” Hirai said in a prepared statement.
Kodera said that it was an honour to be given this opportunity and that he intends to build on the progress and growth that flourished under House.
“I look forward to working together with the SIE team, and everyone across the Sony Group, to continue to strengthen relations with our business partners, and provide the best possible interactive entertainment experiences, that only PlayStation can deliver,” Kodera said.
