Netflix Stops Production of House of Cards Sixth Season

Netflix Stops Production of House of Cards Sixth Season 1

Fans of House of Cards will need to wait for the next season now that the show’s production has been put on hold.

Netflix announced today that the decision has been made to halt all production on the upcoming season of House of Cards. The reason behind the abrupt hiatus is due to recent sexual abuse allegations made against series star Kevin Spacey.

“MRC and Netflix have decided to suspend production on House of Cards season six, until further notice, to give us time to review the current situation and to address any concerns of our cast and crew,” said Netflix and its production partner, Media Right Capital in an exclusive interview with Deadline.

Last week, actor Anthony Rapp revealed that Spacey had made unwanted sexual advances toward him when he was only 14 years old. Kevin Spacey responded online with an apology, also coming out as gay. Spacey’s confession has been met with negativity online, being seen as a way to divert attention away from the allegations made by Rapp.

Netflix has issued the following statement about the House of Cards production:

“Media Rights Capital and Netflix are deeply troubled by last night’s news concerning Kevin Spacey. In response to last night’s revelations, executives from both of our companies arrived in Baltimore this afternoon to meet with our cast and crew to ensure that they continue to feel safe and supported. As previously scheduled, Kevin Spacey is not working on set at this time.”

Netflix announced yesterday that the upcoming sixth season of House of Cards will finish off the series. The season is currently scheduled to debut in 2018 with no exact date.
