Studio Rebellion Announces Battlezone Combat Commander

A followup to the remaster of Battlezone 98 Redux released in 1998 has been revield.

UK developer Rebellion announced today that the studio is working on a follow-up to Battlezone VR. The new game is set to be a remaster of Battlezone II: Combat Commander, originally released on PC in 1999. Along with recreated visuals, the game will feature achievements, cloud saving, and mod support. Set to release on PC, Battlezone Combat Commander will also allow for cross-play online multiplayer between GOG and Steam users for up to 14 players at a time.

The original Battlezone II: Combat Commander was developed by Pandemic Studios and published by Activision. Players take on the role of a pilot, controlling various vehicles in a first-person shooter. The game also features real-time strategy elements, allowing players to build structures and command other units during combat.

Earlier this year, Rebellion found success with their virtual reality remake of the original Battlezone game. Battlezone VR supported online co-op for up to four players at one and featured completely remade visuals as well. The game was a launch title for Sony’s PlayStation VR, also releasing on PC.

Battlezone Combat Commander is currently in development and is slated to release next year. Fans interested in trying the game early can sign up here for a chance to join Battlezone Combat Commander’s closed beta test.
