Dying Light Gets A Standalone Multiplayer Expansion

Dying Light will be getting a standalone, multiplayer expansion in 2018, Techland announced Thursday.

Called Dying Light: Bad Blood, the expansion will “blend PvP and PvE styles of gameplay, while retaining the core of Dying Light’s unique experience,” according to Techland. Each match in the new mode will begin with six players dropping into a zombie infested area, with the goal being to harvest enough blood samples from zombies to earn a spot on the extraction helicopter by the end of the match.

Players are advised to group together in order to defeat “zombie bosses” to steal more samples. Though seats on the helicopter are unlocked based on the cumulative total of samples collected, seats can only be purchased individually. This, in theory, means that players will have to struggle between forming alliances to acquire samples and backstabbing other players to make sure they can get a seat before the helicopter departs.

“Our aim is both to satisfy players’ demands for competitive PvP gameplay and to explore new directions for Dying Light’s multiplayer experience,” said Tymon Smektala, Producer at Techland, in a press release. “Since Bad Blood was inspired by fan requests, we want player feedback to be an integral part of our development. That’s why we’re inviting Dying Light fans to take part in our Global Playtest. They can play the expansion early and share their thoughts, knowing their feedback will have a major influence on Bad Blood‘s development.”

Dying Light was originally released in 2015, and was followed by The Following expansion in February 2016. In June 2017, Techland announced that they would continue to support Dying Light with the release of ten free DLC packs over the following twelve months.

Those looking to test out Bad Blood on Steam ahead of its release can sign up for a global playtest on Techland’s website.
