Monster Hunter: World Ships Five Million Copies in Three Days

Monster Hunter: World Ships Five Million Copies in Three Days 1

Capcom announced that Monster Hunter: World has set a new sales record in the first three days of release.

In a statement released by Capcom, initial sales figures indicate Monster Hunter: World has shipped five million copies of the game in the first three days of release. These figures of the game include physical versions on PlayStation 4, Xbox One as well as digital downloads.

Monster Hunter: World has also claimed the number one slot in the UK charts with the highest week one sales in the series to date. Monster Hunter Generation previously held the record for Capcom. Having originally been released in 2016, the game sold over 1.5 million copies in the first two days of release.

In a bold business strategy, Monster Hunter World is straying from its formula of Japan first-releases, and opting for a simultaneous global launch, which seems to follow a common trend. Bluepoint Games and SIE Japan Studio is giving a similar treatment to Shadow of the Colossus that releases Globally on February 6. The same thing can be seen with Bandai Namco as they are giving Ni No Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom a global simultaneous release on March 23.

In an interview with MantanWeb, Hirokazu Hamamura, said that he predicts Monster Hunter: World will sell 10 million units worldwide. This prediction also includes the PC release that will be available for purchase this Fall. Hamamura also said that Monster Hunter: World sales will increase when the game is available on steam and when it goes on sale.

Ryozo Tsujimoto, Producer of Monster Hunter: World said that his team is currently working on the PC version that is expected to release this Fall. The PC version of the game was originally supposed to come out with the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions. Tsujimoto said, “For the main Monster Hunter game, this is our first PC title and it’s something we want to make sure we get right.”

Monster Hunter: World released on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One globally on January 26, 2018.
