The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) celebrates 10 years of superhero films with a cast shot of everyone who ever appeared in any Marvel movie.
The MCU started its rise to fame in 2008 with the release of Iron Man. From 2008 to 2018 the MCU has produced a total of 18 superhero films that have included Captain America, Thor and large ensemble movies like the Avengers.
The cast photo that appeared on Twitter this past Thursday contained 76 actors who have appeared in the MCU. Chris Hemsworth, the actor who plays Thor said, “It was sort of like being at the Academy Awards or something, every person had been in one or all of my favourite films.”
“I literally am in dead centre in the front row,” said Robert Downey Jr., the actor who plays Iron Man. “And I’m looking around going, ‘Any one of these people can be dead centre’.” In several photos, you can see Downey sitting with Chris Evans (the actor who plays Captain America) alongside Stan Lee who co-created several Marvel characters.
Chris Pratt, who plays Star-Lord, called the get-together a “dream come true” and likened it to “being drafted to a sports team that has a legacy of championship banners.” He may be the lead in Black Panther, but as a Marvel newcomer Chadwick Boseman says he was busy “looking around the room, wondering, what did I do to deserve this?”
While many of the MCU actors made an appearance, Natalie Portman who plays Thor’s love interest and Lupita Nyong’o who plays Nakia in the latest Black Panther movie did not make it to the photo shoot. At the end of the event Kevin Feige, President of Marvel Studios, thanked everyone who had a part in making the MCU what it was and said that he hopes for another 10 years.
