Kristen Wiig, a Saturday Night Live alum, is currently in talks to play the villainous lead in Wonder Woman 2.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Kristen Wiig is being considered to play one of Wonder Woman’s greatest enemies, The Cheetah. Patty Jenkins is returning to film the sequel after directing the first Wonder Woman. Not much is known about the movie but it will be set in the 1980’s in the backdrop of the Cold War.

Cheetah has been reimagined a few times since her introduction in 1943’s Wonder Woman No. 6. Her most famous incarnation comes in the form of Dr. Barbara Ann Minerva. Minerva is a British anthropologist who gains her powers after an expedition to an African jungle. This version of Cheetah didn’t appear until her debut in 1987 under the work of writer Len Wein and artist George Perez

Wiig has had an extensive film and television career since leaving NBC’s Saturday Night Live in 2012. She first made her way to stardom as the main character in Bridesmaids and after which she played in a couple of indies like Her and Diary of a Teenage Girl. She has also had parts in studio comedies like Ghostbusters and Zoolander 2. If she plays Cheetah, then this will be her first role in the superhero genre.

The first Wonder Woman did well with critics and fans, receiving a 76 on Metacritic and earning almost $708 million worldwide at the boxoffice. Wonder Woman 2 is expected to come to theatres on Nov. 1, 2019 and will be the eighth instalment in the D.C. cinematic universe.
