BlackBerry Targets Facebook, Instagram And WhatsApp For Infringing Messaging Property

BlackBerry is planning an infringement lawsuit against Facebook as well its subsidiaries including WhatsApp, and Instagram follower vendor Buzzoid.

In a report by Reuters, BlackBerry alleges that Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp developed what they are referring to as “competing applications that improperly used BlackBerry’s mobile messaging intellectual property.”

BlackBerry had sent a statement on Tuesday, confirming that they had attempted to resolve the conflict with Facebook through dialogue, however to appease shareholders, the company has decided to take legal recourse.

“Blackberry’s suit sadly reflects the current state of its messaging business,” said Paul Grewal, Facebook deputy general counsel, in an email to MobileSyrup. “Having abandoned its efforts to innovate, BlackBerry is now looking to tax the innovation of others.”
