Diablo, Smash Bros, Bayonetta Oh My!

Nintendo Direct Expectations: March 2018 3

Whether it’s beating up your friends as your favourite Nintendo characters, challenging the armies of the devil himself or being a stylish witch who faces off against angels and demons, everyone has a reason to be excited for the Nintendo Direct tonight.

There are three major expectations for the presentation tonight. Super Smash Bros. coming to the Switch, Diablo III making a transition to the Switch and the Bayonetta 3 release date.

The Super Smash Bros. fighting game is undoubtedly one of Nintendo’s biggest titles to come out since its initial release back in 2014 on the Wii U and 3DS. The game has sold almost 6 million copies worldwide across the two consoles while the Switch has sold over 10 million systems. It is likely that Nintendo’s best fighting game will join one of the fastest selling Nintendo console. It has also been rumoured since the end of 2016, that a director’s cut of Smash Bros. could be released on the Wii U and 3DS. It is possible that Nintendo is waiting for the Direct to announce a new directors edition of the game that will release on the Switch.

Speaking of third-party support, Diablo III could be making an appearance at the Nintendo Direct. The speculation started with a tweet by Blizzard showing a short video of Diablo’s head on a nightlight and someone flicking the switch on and off. The tweet came out on Feb. 27, and there have been several comments saying that they hope this is a sign that Diablo III will come to Switch. This announcement actually has more importance than it originally lets on. If Diablo III makes its way to the Switch, then this allows for other Blizzard games to make their transition to the Nintendo Console.

Everyone’s favourite umbra witch will be making her return in the third Bayonetta game. The newest instalment was originally announced in 2017 after the success of the first two games being brought to the Switch. As of right now, there is no release date, but hopefully, Nintendo is ready to change that.
