Bethesda Grows With a New Austin Office 2

Bethesda Game Studios has acquired BattleCry Studios in its newest expansion.

Bethesda attained the new office in order to broaden their game development workspace. BattleCry Studios, now named Bethesda Game Studios Austin, is the newest base of operations for the game developing company to work on any upcoming titles. Austin is the third office that Bethesda Game Studios has acquired, alongside their main office in Maryland and Montréal.

“As the vision, scale and ambitions for our games continue to grow, so does Bethesda Game Studios,” said Todd Howard, Game Director and Executive Producer at Bethesda Game Studios. “We’ve had the pleasure to know the talented developers at BattleCry, and knew we could do great things together.”

The new Austin office will be staffed by experienced game developers and the studio will be headed by Doug Mellencamp. Mellencamp was previously the General Manager and Technical Director of BattleCry Studios.

“We’re excited to join Bethesda Game Studios and look forward to working together on some of the industry’s most exciting new games,” said Mellencamp. “Austin’s incredible game development scene and talent will also allow us to push our games further than fans have imagined.”

The staff who will be working in the new studio have experience developing AAA games. BattleCry Studios was founded in 2012 and was formed to create a free-to-play, 32-player combat game that would have launched on PC’s in 2015. The game was scrapped and BattleCry laid off most of their staff. Instead of disbanding the company as a whole, BattleCry had a hand in assisting the multiplayer content for DOOM post-release.

Bethesda is part of ZeniMax Media Company and the company creates and publishes original interactive entertainment content for consoles, PC’s and handheld/wireless devices. Bethesda is just one of the many studios that are part of ZeniMax. Arkane Studios, Escalation Studios, Machine Games, and Tango Gameworks are among the many partners of ZeniMax.

Bethesda is best known for their work on the Elder Scroll and Fallout series.
