Rumor: PlayStation 5 Spec Details Leaked Online 1

All of the juicy details about the rumoured PlayStation 5 console were locked behind a $1000 paywall, until now.

Posted on SemiAccurate behind the aforementioned paywall, their story claimed to possess knowledge about the rumoured console but refused to share it with anyone who would not pay their fee. Luckily someone did find out what is behind the paywall. A forum writer on ResetEra revealed that SemiAccurate’s information claims, that PlayStation 5 may not, in fact, be the final release title for the new console.

According to the forum writer on Reset Era, Sony will utilize AMD’s upcoming Navi architecture for graphics and will use a custom Zen based microprocessor as the core CPU for the system. It should be noted that these are not the same AMD Jaguar CPU’s that are featured in the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 4 Pro. The PlayStation 5 is also apparently supposed to come with VR capability that is integrated at the silicon level. This suggests that Sony not only is sticking with the PSVR brand but also plan to bring VR gameplay to the PlayStation 5 game lineup if true.

CGMagazine reached out to several developers to confirm the details, but at this time none would confirm or deny the validity of the rumour. SemiAccurate believes that a 2018 release for the console is not totally out of the question.

Various gaming analysts like Wedbrush Securities research analyst, Michael Pachter and IDC research director Lewis Ward, believe that the console will be released in 2020 or 2021. NDP analyst Mat Piscatella echoed Pachter by saying that the console would most likely release in 2020. “The data suggests [that] there’s no need to do it earlier.  But I’ve been surprised before so I’m as interested in this as anyone,” said Piscatella.

SemiAccurate is confident that they are in possession of the “real info.” The site reminds its readers that they were the ones who correctly revealed the stats of the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch before their initial release. The site also predicted the console mid-cycle refresh: the Xbox One X and the PlayStation 4 Pro.
