Destiny 2 Guide: How to get the Sleeper Simulant Exotic Weapon

Destiny 2 Guide: How to get the Sleeper Simulant Exotic Weapon

The Sleeper Simulant was one of the later additions to the original Destiny and now thanks to the latest expansion, the Sleeper Simulant can be obtained in Destiny 2.

First things, first, the main Warmind campaign must be complete before being able to obtain the coveted linear fusion rifle — once the campaign is complete, players must talk to Ana Bray, the new NPC on Mars and receive two new missions that ultimately net the player with a new hand cannon.

The two missions in question are Legacy Code and A Piece of the Past, both of which are fairly straightforward and once completed will net the player with the IKELOS_HC_V1.0.1 Hand Cannon, a key weapon required in reuniting with the Sleeper Simulant.

Talking to Ana Bray after acquiring the IKELOS Hand Cannon will unlock the mission Violent Intel, this next crucial step asks Guardians to take down 100 Cabal and 100 Hive enemies with precision shots (headshots, or anything that causes yellow crits) using the IKELOS Hand Cannon — this isn’t too difficult, if not a little grindy. Thankfully Mars is ripe with public events that can be activated throughout the map, just look for red glowing pads that activate Hive related events.

The best place I found to grind this portion of the quest out is the starting area, the Glacial Drift spawn in point — not only is there a public event marker in close proximity, players can also find an abundance of Cabal forces that spawn in regularly. It took me around 45 minutes to get the required critical kills for the mission.

Once complete, players will receive another quest item called Rasputin’s Culling, which requires the player to get some powerful enemy kills in order to fill up yet another bar. The best place to do this is on Nessus, specifically the Heroic tier public events that spawn a plethora of Elite or Yellow Bar enemies — thankfully, this step requires the IKELOS Hand Cannon to just be equipped, meaning players don’t actually have to use get headshots using the hand cannon and can rely on other means such as supers and heavy weapons to quickly rack up kills, as long as the gun is used to finish off said enemy.

Once this step is complete, players will receive what is likely the most time-consuming portion of the questline. Guardians will have to complete 5 Heroic level Strikes, which thanks to the increase in levels is harder than ever, but more than doable, especially if done with a full fireteam.

After all 5 Heroic Strikes are complete, Guardians will receive the mission Nodes and Protocols, this requires players to complete additional public events known as Escalation Protocols on Mars (the red glowing things). After several rounds of the Escalation Protocol missions, players will have to hunt down nodes which are strewn about the Mars map.

Players will now need to collect a bunch of resonate Stems which can be acquired from doing 3 Patrol Missions on Mars, once Guardians have enough, go into the inventory and look for the said item — players will be able to combine them to craft something called an Override Frequency.

This is when things can get a little confusing, essentially, the Override Frequency item hints at one of 40 nodes that can be unlocked somewhere on Mars — players will need to unlock 15 of these nodes in order to acquire the Sleeper Simulant Exotic weapon.

Each Override Frequency item’s description hints at one of the 40 node locations, pay attention to the item description, which ends in a string of random numbers but more importantly hints at locations on Mars, an example being glacial drift. subterrene, referring to the starting area of Mars.

Players will know they are close to a node if they can hear a change in music. After players acquire 15/40 nodes they will have to complete a Nightfall level version of the last Warmind Quest, once again, facing off against a now more menacing Xol.

After all this, Guardians will finally receive the Sleeper Simulant Linear Fusion Rifle exotic weapon, which feels like a beefier and more viable weapon for both PVE and the Crucible than ever before.
