Given the amount of time and energy that Microsoft has put into the Forza franchise over the years, it is not surprising to find another Forza game at this year’s Xbox Press Conference; however, what was said during the announcement of Forza Horizon 4 was surprising.

The Horizon franchise will be heading to a digital version of the United Kingdom. Microsoft did not go into detail about how close this digital version of the UK will be to the actual land mass we know, but the world map is supposed to be bigger than the map found in the last game.

The details about the map that Xbox was willing to share included the fact that all players will be experiencing this game in a shared world—a world that will run at 60 fps if players have the new Xbox One X. Everyone else can still look forward to a dynamic world that shifts from night to day as well as all four seasons. No one said how quickly a season or day will change, but each season will change how the world looks and how the cars will handle the road conditions. We do know that the time of day is synchronized for all players, so everyone will experience the same conditions at the same time. In winter, for instance, new areas become unlocked when the water freezes and players can drive across the ice.

Forza Horizon 4 will be embracing this massive player base with the introduction of a quick chat feature that allows players to send pre-set messages with the press of a button, very similar to the quick chat feature found in games like Rocket League.

Major events called “World Events” will also be a new addition to Forza Horizon. While there weren’t a lot of concrete details, several players were doing donuts together in the live demo. Xbox reps said was that these events are designed to bring people from all over the game-space together to complete an objective in order to win what was described as a bigger reward.

Forza Horizon 4 will hit retail and the Xbox Game-Pass program on October 2nd 2018.
