Nintendo Teams up with Disney to bring Switch Focused Family Game Show

In a press release that outlines a new partnership between Disney and Nintendo, the two entertainment giants have announced that a casting call for a show focused on families competing against each other in a series of Switch games is now actively seeking out entries.

Aptly named Nintendo Switch Family Showdown, Nintendo and Disney are now accepting one-minute long video entries, requiring families to explain why they think they deserve a spot on the forthcoming gameshow by proving their love for the big N. The show promises to pit families against each other in various challenges themed around different objectives in popular Nintendo switch titles, examples include, hunting down hidden collectables in Mario Odyssey, having a dance-off in Ubisoft’s Just Dance, or simply competing in matches in games such as Mario Tennis Aces.

The days before the internet meant that for many publishers and even big names such as Nintendo, the best way to show off their latest games and gear came in the form television, therefore, it is surprising to see Nintendo utilize the same medium in such a manner, reminiscent of shows like Nick Arcade, Arena and Video & Arcade Top 10 in Canada.

Those interested in Nintendo Switch Family Showdown should note that entries for the show are limited to residents of the US and require at least one family member within the ages of six to 18. Readers wanting to find out further details are encouraged to visit the official Nintendo Switch Showdown website. Other prizes include the chance to meet Disney celebrities, win various Nintendo e-shop vouchers, or a switch console itself.

Winners will be flown out to Los Angelas where the show will be filmed. Entries for the show will close on July 1, with the competition itself taking place in August.
