Epic Files Lawsuit Against Former Fortnite QA Tester for Leak

Without a question, Epic Games has struck gold with Fortnite. Unfortunately, the more popular a game is, the more likely it is for people to want more out of it, which is why a former quality assurance tester has been filed a lawsuit, after leaking several upcoming features for the latest season of the highly popular title, ahead of schedule.

Originally reported by Polygon, Epic Games has taken legal action on Thomas Hannah, a former quality assurance tester, who was found to be leaking information regarding Fortnite on Reddit. Hannah leaked information regarding an update that would meteorites, going as far as to say where they would hit on the map.

Epic claims that the premature release of information has caused “irreparable injury”. Adding, “leaks also dampen the enthusiasm of a game’s players and audience, potentially leading them to move to other games, and negatively impact the financial performance of current and future versions of the game.”

In Hannah’s defense, he stated that he spoke with someone who “pumped him with questions” and that he didn’t intend for the information to leak on to Reddit, essentially, backing him up in to a corner, causing him to give out more specific details such as the meteorites landing around Dusty Depot.

Since the leak, the actual Reddit post has been wiped clean and erased from the website, however, Hannah did sign a non-disclosure agreement which Epic can use against him in court, regardless of the leak being deleted.

Fortnite is available to play for free on all major platforms.
