Out of the blue, Apple has just announced a refresh to its MacBook Pro line of laptop computers for 2019, specifically the higher-spec 13-inch and 15-inch models, that feature the Touch Bar, excluding the 13-inch Pro model that doesn’t feature the Touch Bar.
Starting with the 15-inch MacBook Pro, which starts at $3,199 CAD, featuring either an i7 or i9 Intel processor, running at 2.9GHz, or up 4.8Ghz with Turbo Boost technology. Apple promises, “up to 70 percent faster” due to the inclusion of the new processors.
The 15-inch MacBook Pro will also sport a Radeon Pro GPU with 4GBs of video RAM, additionally, customers can opt-in upgrading up to 32GBs of DDR4 RAM and 4TBs of internal storage ( a nice jump from the previous 16GB RAM cap).
The 13-inch refresh of MacBook Pro, Apple states will feature 8th-generation i5 or i7 Intel processors, that feature “two times faster performance,” and will start at $2,399 CAD. The CPUs will run at an impressive range of 2.7GHz, all the way up to 4.5GHz with Turbo Boost. In terms of graphics, the MacBook will sport an Intel Iris 655 integrated graphics card with 128mb of eDRAM, with up to 2TB of storage.
Apple is also ensuring that both 2018 refreshed models will feature a more powerful battery, in order to properly deliver adequate performance from the stronger hardware inside. All the IO from the previous 2017 model is back and accounted for, specifically referring to the four Thunderbolt/ Type-C connection ports and 3.5mm headphone jack.
Both machines have also adopted the iPhone X’s True Tone display technology, offering customers with screens that automatically shift and alter its tint in relation to different lighting conditions, offering the best viewing experience possible.
Like some of the previously released, higher-end MacBook Pros’, the 2018 models will both sport the Touch Bar and Touch ID capabilities.
Additionally, Apple will be releasing a rather fancy looking, leather sleeve accessory for both models. The sleeves will be available in Black, Brown and Dark Blue and will be priced at $239 and $269 respectively
Lastly, both models of the 2018 MacBook feature a retooled butterfly style keyboard. For those not aware, previously, the butterfly style keyboard has been featured in older MacBook Pros and unfortunately, due to issues with key-travel and unresponsive keys, forced Apple into initiating a special 4-year repair program. Apple hasn’t divulged too much information, in terms of what this revamped keyboard means, however, they did state, that the 2018 models will feature “quieter typing.”
Both the 13-inch and 15-inch model are now available through Apple.ca or in-store.
