Disney Finally Acquires 20th Century Fox, X-Men Reunited with Marvel

A Reunion worthy of a Disney Movie

With Comcast recently announcing that they have backed down from their interest in acquiring 20th Century Fox, it was only a matter of time before Disney would place their white gloves over the home of the X-Men. In a meeting held last Friday, shareholders over at Fox agreed to Disney’s bid of $71.3 billion to take ownership over the vast majority of Fox’s assets.

It has been reported that previous meetings between Disney and Fox have lasted less than 15 minutes, indicating that both parties were more than likely in agreement for a long period of time. With the U.S Department of Justice already approving the transactions and Comcast out of the picture, the deal seems to be set in stone and complete, or at least not until the first half of 2019, according to a report by Variety.

A press release from Disney shares some insight into the recent merger,

“The agreement also provides Disney with the opportunity to reunite the X-Men, Fantastic Four, and Deadpool with the Marvel family under one roof and create richer, more complex worlds of inter-related characters and stories that audiences have shown they love…”

Disney’s interest in 20th Century Fox began back in December of last year, in which Disney and Fox reached a buyout agreement of $52.4 billion. This was eventually met with an interest shown by Comcast, which offered $65 Billion in cash on June 10, 2017. It wasn’t until just last week that Comcast announced that they were backing out on the offer, leaving Disney the winners.

It will be interesting to see where Disney takes Marvel properties going forward, now that they reign over the all major characters and properties.
