Lizardcube and DotEmu have announced Streets of Rage 4, over 20 years after the last game in the franchise launched in 1994.While no platforms have been confirmed, the debut animated trailer of the side-scrolling beat ’em up features returning protagonists Axel Stone and Blaze Fielding, both of whom were playable in all three previous games in the Streets of Rage series.

The game will feature hand-drawn art from the same team that animated last year’s Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap, and “builds upon the classic trilogy’s gameplay with new mechanics, a fresh story and a gauntlet of dangerous stages with a serious crime problem.”

Streets of Rage began with the first game on the Sega Genesis in 1994, with the second and third games launching in 1992 and 1994 respectively. All three entries have been ported to other platforms over the years, including the Gamecube, PlayStation 2, Wii, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and 3DS.
