Insomniac in Negotiations to Alter Botched Marriage Proposal Easter Egg in Spider-Man

Possibly Changed to Tribute to late Grandmother

Life can often time be unexpected, for better or for worse, sadly, a fan who asked to put a marriage proposal in Insomniac’s Spider-Man has recently had to face the latter part of this truth, with things falling apart, prior to the game’s release.

Tyler Schultz asked Insomniac Games back in May of 2018, prior to the release of Marvel’s Spider-Man, a request to put in a marriage proposal to his then, current girlfriend. Unfortunately, Schultz’s girlfriend left him for his own brother, prior to the release of the game, making the easter egg, which can be found plastered in a movie theatre marquee in-game, more of a sad and bitter reminder of how cruel life can sometimes be, rather than a touching and cute proposal to someone’s significant other.

In a recent tweet from Insomniac’s Art Director, Jacinda Chew, she offered Schultz the opportunity to change the message posted in the in-game marquee, in which Schultz requested a tribute to his late Grandmother, who passed away from cancer. Schultz went on to state that his Grandmother was the person who helped spark Schult’z love affair with Spider-Man in the first place, by purchasing for him a Spider-Man comic (Amazing Fantasy #15).

In a statement to the Houston Press, Maddie, Schultz’s ex, stated that the relationship between them soured a while ago becoming a, “mother and son relationship where I had to remind him about things.” addeing: “The things he has been saying about me hurt and that is something we mutually agreed not to do to each other, but it is not being reciprocated now… I think it’s just easier for him to hate me than to be hurt by my decision to break up. I hope he moves on and finds happiness because that’s exactly what I am doing.”

Marvel’s Spider-Man is now available exclusively on PlayStation 4
