Xs, Xs Max and Xr!

Apple Announces Three New iPhones at 2018 Keynote 1

At this year’s Apple Keynote, the company announced three new iPhone models in the Xs, Xs Max and Xr.

The Xs models are upgraded version of last year’s iPhone X and are made of surgical grade stainless steel. They feature an all-new gold finish option along with the previously available silver and space grey. Other than the new colour scheme, the two new models are very similar looking to last year’s iPhone X. As for the durability, the new phones boast the most durable glass ever for a smartphone and can be submerged two metres deep for up to 30 minutes without being damaged.

The screen on the regular Xs has a 5.8-inch retina display, with a resolution of 2436 by 1125 pixels and a pixel density of 458 ppi. The Xs Max is noticeably larger, at 6.5 inches along with more pixels, but has the same pixel density as the regular Xs. Both phones will be available in 64 GB, 256 GB and 512 GB models with the Xs starting at $999 USD, and the Xs Max available from $1099 USD. The key difference between the two models other than size is battery life, as the Xs Max has an extra hour of battery capability compared to the Xs.

On the less expensive side, the iPhone Xr will retail for $749 USD, and is available in a 64 GB, 128 GB or 256 GB version. Its screen is actually larger than the regular Xs and clocks in at 6.1-inches, but it is an LED screen and has a lower resolution of 1792 by 828 with 326 ppi as a result. The Xr is also made out of aluminium and not the stainless steel of the Xs models.

Camera wise, all of the new X’s have a 12-megapixel wide-angle lens and 12-megapixel telephoto lens on the back side. On the front, there is a 7-megapixel camera and infrared camera for Face ID which is carrying over from last years iPhone X. The biggest breakthrough camera wise is easily the new Smart HDR feature. On top of taking high-quality photos, the new feature allows users to play with depth effects even after a photo is taken. This allows for even more customization and options for those whose main reason for buying an iPhone is its picture taking capabilities.

Dual sim cards are also now a reality thanks to eSim technology which allows for two numbers to exist on a single phone. As a result, this gives people who want two lines, like say a work and home line, access to it from the comfort of one phone. Users will have to set up the service through their providers and it will be rolled out starting this fall.

The iPhone Xs and Xs Max will be available for pre-order starting on September 14th and will begin to ship on September 21st. The iPhone Xr is releasing a bit later with pre-orders starting on October 19th and orders shipping on October 26th.
