Magic: The Gathering Arena beta launches later this month 1

The original collectable card game is finally making its way to digital in the form of the Magic: The Gathering Arena beta.

The open beta was announced in a video on the official Magic The Gathering YouTube channel,  and features actor Danny Trejo and eSports personality Sean ‘Day9’ Plott. The video showed off the game’s presentation, including some very expressive and visually interesting card animations. These animations include 3D dragons wrecking havoc and various card combos coming to life.

Magic: The Gathering Arena will feature the same gameplay as the regular card game, so fans of the game should feel right at home. For new players, the digital game will include a tutorial that will take them through the basics of Magic: The Gathering. The game is also free to play, but similarly to other digital card games does have the option of buying packs and sets as well.

Players who took part in the closed betas will have their accounts wiped out but will be reimbursed for any in-game purchases that they’ve made. They will also receive three cards from the upcoming Guilds of Ravnica expansion when it launches.

Magic: the Gathering Arena was announced last year and has since overgone a long private beta. It is the newest addition to the growing digital card realm, that includes heavyweight titles such as Hearthstone and Gwent.

The beta will launch on September 27th on PC with the full game set to arrive at some point in the future. You can sign up for the upcoming beta at the game’s official website.
