Blood, the gory horror themed shooter from the mid-90’s crop of Doom-like games is being re-released thanks to Atari and Nightdive Studios

First released back in the year 1997 by Monolith Productions, blood was a bloody, horror-themed take on the Doom formula. The game being developed by Washing-based Nightdive studios will keep the core Blood experience while updating it for modern systems.

Nightdive Studios is best known recently for the crowdfunded remastering of System Shock 2, and has a team of industry veterans including engine developer Samuel “Villarreal, whose previous work includes The Original Strife, Turok, Turok 2: Seeds of Evil, along with developers Edward Richardson, James Haley, and producer Daniel Grayshon.

“Blood stood up extremely well over time and we are taking care to preserve all the qualities that made the game so special.”
producer Daniel Grayshon outlined. “It really only needs minor updates to provide a better user experience for contemporary audiences.”

Although the game will be updated to work on modern systems and digital storefronts, the core Blood experience will remain intact. “As part of this, we will preserve the accuracy of the game behavior. While these upgrades are relatively minor, we are confident that they will provide fans with a better, current generation gameplay experience,” Grayshon explained. No release date or platforms have been confirmed at this time.
