Fans of Jim Henson’s Dark Crystal, looking forward to new information regarding Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance, the Netflix produced prequel series, should mark Friday, August 30, 2019, the premiere date for the highly anticipated, puppet fantasy epic.

Directed by Louis Leterrier (The Incredible Hulk, Transporter) the prequel promises to flesh out the origins of the dastardly Skeksis‘ power, the main antagonists from the 1982 film. Fans of the imaginative world of The Dark Crystal will get to see a brand-new and extended look at Thra, the fictional setting of Jim Henson’s original vision. A summary, via the official press release for the upcoming prequel, can be read down below:

“Based on The Dark Crystal, Jim Henson’s groundbreaking 1982 feature film, The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance tells a new epic story, set many years before the events of the movie, and realized using classic puppetry with cutting edge visual effects. The world of Thra is dying. The Crystal of Truth is at the heart of Thra, a source of untold power. But it is damaged, corrupted by the evil Skeksis, and a sickness spreads across the land. When three Gelfling uncover the horrific truth behind the power of the Skeksis, an adventure unfolds as the fires of rebellion are lit and an epic battle for the planet begins.”

In the spirit of the original, The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance will employ the use of puppets, augmented with contemporary CGI techniques, which should result in a faithful yet sleek looking presentation. Lisa Henson, Executive producer, and CEO of the Jim Henson Company, along with Louis Leterrier, Halle Stanford, are at the helm of the upcoming prequel series, which should squash any qualms fans of the original may have with the forthcoming prequel.
