HD Remaster of Batman Beyond On Its Way

HD Remaster of Batman Beyond On Its Way

Batman Beyond is finally getting some much-needed love with an HD remaster, Blu-ray, and streaming platform release.

Jumping in just in time for the old cartoon’s 20th anniversary, this stylish and slightly futuristic take on Batman has a remaster that’ll hit store shelves October 29th. This reveal came straight from the crew members at a San Diego Comic-Con panel this Thursday. It was also revealed that the show’s first season would pop up on the DC Universe streaming service soon.

The new limited edition set will include the complete series, as well as a chromed Batman Beyond Funko Pop, new featurettes, the Return of the Joker animated movie, and lenticular art cards. All 52 episodes of the series are included, but only 41 are fully remastered; the other 11 were irreparably damaged in the intervening decades, and had to be “uprezzed” from older files.

Batman Beyond premiered in 1999, spinning out of the already legendary Batman: The Animated Series. But instead of just being another show about an established DC Comics setting, like Superman: The Animated Series or the later Justice League shows, Beyond was set decades after those would take place. Bruce Wayne was shifted into a mentor role for a new, teenage Batman, Terry McGinnis, who wore a suit that amplified his strength and could even fly.

I can confirm from my own childhood memories that Batman Beyond is great, and I’m pleasantly surprised by its return to the modern age. More Comic-Con news is sure to come, so we’ll keep you posted.
