MechWarrior 5 Delayed, Now A Timed Epic-Exclusive 1

MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries has been delayed to December 10th, and will be a timed exclusive on the Epic Games Store for about a year.

Piranha Games announced yesterday that they’re pushing the launch of their mecha sim back from September 10th to December 10th, as well as making it an Epic exclusive. A closed beta is also planned for November. This comes after the game was already in a rocky development cycle since 2009, so what’s three more months/a year, really?

Users who have already pre-ordered the game from its official website may cancel their pre-order and receive a full refund by September 1. All users who cancel their pre-orders will be able to keep the MechWarrior Online content from the standard, Collector, and Ultimate editions, but will lose access to the closed beta in November and exclusive MechWarrior 5 downloadable content items.

“Our partnership with the Epic Games store allows Piranha the opportunity to make sure MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries meets our internal goal of creating the best MechWarrior game possible,” said executive producer Russ Bullock in a press release. “Since we announced the development of the first single-player MechWarrior game in 17 years, we have stated that our goal was to deliver to fans a MechWarrior: Mercenaries experience with true freedom of choice and to be able to share that experience in a coop setting.”

The game takes place in the year 3015 across a vast region of colonized space. You play as a mercenary MechWarrior, piloting BattleMechs for cash. There are apparently hundreds of unique mechs to use in your journey, great for leveling cities and crushing enemies in your way. There’s even 4-player co-op for those who want to fight with their friends.

MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries will release exclusively on the Epic Games Store on December 10th. In the meantime, you can check out the available promotional materials and the beta when it comes out this November.
