It looks like a new instalment in the legendary Matrix series of movies is in the cards, with none other than Keanu Reeves at the helm, along with Carrie-Ann Moss and Lana Wachowski.

Lana Wachowskis will return to write and direct the latest entry into the Matrix series of movies. Matrix 4 will also see the return of star, Keanu Reeves as Neo and Carrie Ann Moss as Trinity. The film, which currently is simply dubbed The Matrix 4, will be under Warner Bros. Pictures and Village Roadshow Productions, who will distribute the movie to a global audience.

“We could not be more excited to be re-entering ‘The Matrix’ with Lana Lana is a true visionary — a singular and original creative filmmaker — and we are thrilled that she is writing, directing and producing this new chapter in ‘The Matrix’ universe,” said Emmerich in a statement to Variety.

The script for the forthcoming Matrix film will also see contributions made by Aleksandar Hemon and David Mitchel, in addition to Grant Hill, co-producing the project along with Wachowski.

Unfortunately, not much else is know about Matrix 4, but it should prove to be interesting in seeing the direction the movies takes, and whether or not it will continue after the events of the trilogy and The Animatrix series,or perhaps, act as a soft-reboot to the franchise.

Regardless of where the movie plans to take audiences, long-time fans can rest assured in knowing that most of the original cast seems to be returning once again to the Matrix. The 4th film into the Matrix series is planned to begin production sometime in 2020.

The last entry into the Matrix series of movie’s was all the way back in 2003, with The Animatrix, which was an anthology series, consisting of nine-shorts that took place within the Matrix cinematic universe set by the three films, prior.
