Horror Anthology Into The Dark Renewed for Another Year On Hulu 1

Hulu and Blumhouse have teamed up again to bring monthly holiday horror movies in a second season of Into The Dark.

Hulu launched the Blumhouse-produced anthology series Into the Dark last October, managing to deliver on their ambitious promise to bring original feature length, holiday-themed horror films every single month for an entire year. With the first season soon coming to an end, Vulture revealed today that Hulu has renewed Into the Dark for a second season. Hulu has ordered nine more episodes on top of the previous fifteen, meaning that the series will run through September 2020.

“What we want to replicate is the kind of the filmmaker-driven vision for the films,” Blumhouse TV’s co-president Marci Wiseman told Vulture. “We’ve brought Hulu filmmakers who are vision first, script later, and they have been unbelievable partners in letting us build this collection.”

Into the Dark “episodes” are filmed in three weeks and processed through a “TV infrastructure”, despite ostensibly being feature-length horror films. Each one devotes itself to providing a dark twist on an American holiday or tradition, and in doing so encourage each episode to be unique. It also helps that there is a wide variety of talent involved, ranging from experienced filmmakers like Nacho Vigalondo (who was behind last year’s Christmas episode Pooka) and newer directors like Gigi Saul Guerrero (who has served as an actress, writer, and short film director, but never directed a feature film before Culture Shock).

Although Hulu doesn’t give out specific viewing data for its shows, it seems that Into The Dark is serving its target audience well. You can look forward to this series continuing on Hulu for the next year.
