Ring Fit Adventure Is The Premiere Game For Nintendo’s New Peripheral

Nintendo’s semi-flexible ring peripheral is called the Ring-Con, and will be put to use when Ring Fit Adventure comes to Nintendo Switch.

It’s the console maker’s latest stab at exer-gaming, which calls back to its tremendous success with it on the Wii in the mid-2000s. Nintendo has released multiple fitness-focused games in the past, starting with Wii Sports and continuing with Wii Fit and Wii Sports Resort. This game looks to break the previous Wii and Mii theming, as well as dial up the fantastical elements.

According to a news release put out yesterday, the Ring-Con combines with a leg strap to deliver exercise challenges in Ring Fit Adventure, where players are trying to defeat a bodybuilding dragon (through superior fitness, of course). “Jog, sprint and do knee-highs in real life to travel through the world,” the statement says, “and use the Ring-Con accessory to perform different in-game actions, like jumping, hovering in mid-air or steering a raft on a river.”

Here’s a seven minute-long look at the controller and the game:

Ring Fit Adventure launches on October 18th exclusively for Nintendo Switch. It will retail for $79.99 USD, which includes the peripherals. It’s a rather interesting move to release information on this fast-upcoming product a week after the recent big Nintendo Direct, but I imagine that Nintendo sees the game as a much more casual experience. If the motion controls work (and there’s no reason for them not to by this point), we could have another interesting little hit on our hands (and on our thighs).
