The Legend Lives On

Tony Todd May Be Returning As The Candyman In Jordan Peele’s Film 1

Principal photography kicked off several weeks ago on the Jordan Peele-produced sequel to Candyman, and casting rumours are mounting.

According to Bloody Disgusting, a large number of trustworthy sources have surfaced claiming that Tony Todd will be returning to the Candyman role that he first portrayed in the 1992 film of the same name. While Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Us, Aquaman) leads the cast, horror fans have been on high alert waiting for an announcement regarding the title character, and with this coming out now, it seems we may not have to wait long.

Peele (Get Out, Us) co-wrote the script, which is described as a “spiritual sequel” to the original classic. The sequel returns to the neighborhood where the legend began: the now-gentrified section of Chicago where the Cabrini-Green housing projects once stood. The original film was a Nia DaCosta (Little Woods)-directed adaptation of a story by the famous horror writer Clive Barker.

All we know right now are rumours, but this sounds credible. CGMagazine will keep its ear to the ground, and will be sure to report on the first sign of official Candyman news. Until then, we can all wait in anticipation and terror of the Candyman sequel’s theatrical release on June 12th, 2020.
