After months of rumour, speculation, and leaks, Google has finally lifted the curtain on its latest flagship, the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4XL.
At the Google hardware event held in New York City, Google showed the world what they can expect when they buy the Pixel 4. This latest iteration of the Pixel range proves to once again be a showcase of the latest and greatest from the world of Google and Android.
Design-wise, the Pixel 4 feels very similar to the Pixel 3. similar look overall, but google has mixed things up enough to make it stand out from year to year. Now both the Pixel 4 and XL feature a top bezel similar to what was seen on the Pixel 2. Google has made both the sides and the bottom bezel small, sticking with the industry trend. Google has also moved away from the two-tone glass in favour of a single colour design with a large square camera on the back.
While both the Pixel 4 and XL featuring a 90Hz screen, the sizes have changed this year. The Pixel 4 features a 5.7-inch OLED display at 1080 x 2160, while the Pixel 4 XL features a 6.3-inch screen at 1440 x 3040.
Inside, the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL feature Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 855 SoC with 6GM RAM. Both can be purchased in either 64Gb or 128GB variants. And if anyone was worried, the Pixel 4 and 4 XL have increased the battery compacity offering 2,800mAh and 3,700mAh respectively.
On the camera side, the Pixel Google has changed this up for this year, offering two rear cameras. A 16-megapixel f/2.4 telephoto with OIS and a 12.2-megapixel f/1.7 wide-angle with OIS. On the front Google has reduced the cameras to one single wide-angle 8-megapixel f/2.0 shooter, which should still be great for group selfie shots.
Both these new phones will come preloaded with Android 10. Google as in past years are offering Pixel exclusive features such as advanced face unlock, a next-gen google assistant (Coming to Canada after launch), new “motion sense”, and new apps, including a transcription app that should prove useful for journalists worldwide.
The Pixel 4 will cost $999 for the 64GB variant and $1,129 for the 128GB model. The Pixel 4 XL costs $1,129 for 64GB and $1,259 for the 128GB model. Both are currently avalable for pre-order starting October 15th and will go on sale in Canada on October 24th.
