It was a great year for genre cinema at this year 2020 Annual Academy Awards, with a massive show, from red carpets, to acceptance speeches, and as the dust settles, Phoenix wins Best actor for Joker, Renée Zellweger takes snags the Best actress and the fantastic Parasite wins Best picture.
Going into the night, there was a lot of skepticism that Parasite would claim any of the Oscars due to politics and the general feel about Academy voters. yet as the night ends, Parasite from director Bong joon-ho sweeps with six wins, including Best Production Design, Best Director, Best Foreign Langage Film, Best Film Editing, Best Original Screenplay, and Best Picture — the first time it has gone to a foreign-language film in the 92-year history of the ceremony.
Among other notable wins, Joaquin Phoenix walks away with the Best Actor award for this work on Joker. Renée Zellweger took home the Best Actress award for Judy, and the Kickstarter short animated film Hair Love won for Best Animated short film. As it is a year that Toy Story 4 hit theatres, there is little surprise when it walked away with the Best Animated feature film award.
