Online gameplay unaffected by throttling

PlayStation Download Speeds Reduced to Save Countries Bandwidth

Sony continues limiting internet speeds across Europe and U.S. regions in an effort to preserve bandwidth for others during the COVID-19 pandemic. As more people stay at home an access PlayStation Plus for online games the company stated it was working with providers to keep the experiences stable.

In a PlayStation Blog post, the measure was originally used to ease European servers earlier in March until the same steps were taken after seeing increased traffic in the U.S.

“We believe it is important to do our part to address internet stability concerns as an unprecedented number of people are practicing social distancing and are becoming more reliant on internet access,” the post wrote. “Players may experience somewhat slower or delayed game downloads but will still enjoy robust gameplay.”

It’s currently unknown if PlayStation owners in Canada are affected by the slower download times throttled in other regions. Past the updates and DLC, players will, fortunately, experience the same as usual speeds in online matches and Battle Royale sessions.
