Sony Delays Uncharted, Ghostbusters: Afterlife and Morbius Due to COVID-19 Pandemic

Venom sequel continues with 2020 release

Sony has paused production for a number of films in the works, including the anticipated Ghostbusters: Afterlife and other Marvel collaboration projects such as Morbius.

All films are also pushed back for release in 2021 as COVID-19 continues to create risks worldwide. Despite the delays, other movies including Venom 2 and Monster Hunter are still set to happen later this year until further notice.

Specific release dates also vary for every movie. The direct sequel to 1989’s Ghostbusters 2 was originally set for this August until it was moved to next March. Uncharted starring Tom Holland was open for release at the same time while it’s now scheduled for an October 2021 window. Morbius, an MCU-attached film with Jared Leto as the titular vampire is also pushed to next March after filming happened earlier in February and a trailer was released.

The films are the latest to get longer wait times, even as films such as No Time to Die were delayed early March with varied release dates from April to November 2020.

According to Cosmic Book News, another unknown Sony/Marvel film was also cancelled without affecting Venom 2. The upcoming sequel sees Tom Hardy returning as Eddie Brock as he goes against Woody Harrelson as serial killer Cletus Kasady/Carnage.
Elements of the MCU could also appear following Michael Keaton’s MCU cameo in Morbius – a sign that Sony’s Marvel films are being unified with other mainstream heroes
