After weeks of rumours and speculation, today Microsoft unveiled a slew of new Surface products, including the new Surface Book 3, Surface Go 2 and Surface Earbuds. With this announcement, Microsoft also finally launched the Surface Earbuds, shown off last fall, along with the announcements of new accessories including the Surface Headphones 2, Surface Dock 2, along with the new Microsoft USB-C Travel Hub.
Surface Go 2
With the Surface Go 2, Microsoft brings back the same thin, lightweight design as the original Surface Go, but made an improvement to the screen, now offering up a 10.5-inch PixelSense display. To allow for this increased screensize, the new Surface Go 2 has slightly smaller bezels that overall should make for a more interesting device suited for the modern world of computing.
Along with the bigger screen, the Surface Go 2 offers up better battery performance, and now boasts up to 64 percent better performance compared to previous models thanks to the newer 8th Gen Core M processor.
Above the display, the Surface Go 2 has a 5-megapixel front-facing camera, that can shoot 1080p video, along with an 8-megapixel rear camera. Microsoft has also improved the camera app, allowing for better scanning of documents and whiteboards. The Surface Go 2 also now boasts dual Studio Mics for better audio for video chatting — great news for the modern remote office workflow we are all dealing with.
Surface Book 3
For fans of Surface 2-in-1 clam shell style laptop, the weight is finally over for the must awaited refresh. The Surface Book 3 pushes the laptop in new ways, with up to 50 percent increase in performance over the Surface Book 2, making it an even more compelling offering for business and home users alike.
Coming in 13-inch and 15-inch configurations, the new Surface Book 3 now comes with a PixelSense Display, a 10th Gen intel Core CPU, as well as an Nvidia discrete GPU. The Surface Book 3 can also be configured with up to 32GB of RAM, and the fastest SSD Microsoft have apparently shipped in devices to date. The options for graphics this time around are also more exciting, with the Surface Book 3 offering the choice of a Quadro RTX 3000 that is optimized for commercial and video-based operations, or a Nvidia GTX 1660 that can deliver 1080p gaming at 60FPS.
While the announcement was dominated by the major new Surface devices, Microsoft also announced availability for many surface accessories many have been eagerly anticipating. The new Surface Earbuds that were field raveled in the fall, are finally making their way to market at a price point of $259 in Canada.
Microsoft also updated its Surface Headphones, now delivering better sound quality and battery life. Along with these new improvements, the Surface Headphones 2 can now last up to 20 hours on a charge, and will feature 13 levels of ambient noise control. The ear-cups on the headphones can rotate 180 degrees and will be available in black and platinum colour options and will start at $349.99 in Canada when they hit stores on May 12.
The new Surface Dock 2 is will make it easier than every to transition from a on-the-go workflow to a desk based work-flow by simply plugging in when you set yourself down. And the new Microsoft USB-C Travel Hub will allow you to make a workspace with all needed connections at a price of $359.99
