Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse Sequel Pushed Back to October 2022

New Release Still Years Away

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse Sequel Pushed Back to October 2022

The sequel to 2018 animated superhero flick Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is getting a release date for October 7, 2022, according to a tweet from Sony.

The tweet comes more than half a year after its official movie account confirmed its existence last November while it was originally set for an April 8, 2022 release window. It’s likely the new release date offsets delays given the stay-at-home measures for production teams and worldwide COVID-19 complications.

According to Digital Spy, the sequel will pick up right where the last one left off as new Spider-Man Miles Morales continues his experience as a wall-crawling crimefighter. He is also set to meet some brand familiar versions of the titular superhero in other universes, including rumors of a Japanese Spider-Man and Oscar Isaac’s Spider-Man 2099 from the first movie’s post-credits scene. Producer Amy Pascal also stated Miles will get to meet Spider-Gwen again as the two grow closer. The cross dimensional of Spider-Verse also gives the movie an opportunity in showing different spins behind classic villains.

Jake Johnson’s Peter Parker/Spider-Man is also returning while Phil Lord and Chris Miller are back to produce the film.
