Death Stranding PC Requirements Revealed Ahead of July Release

The requirements for Hideo Kojima’s Death Stranding PC port have been released, showing off an incredibly optimized experience without too much of a demand for hardware.

In a release, both 505 Games and Kojima Productions stated the PC version has a chance to reach more players outside of its PlayStation 4 exclusivity since its launch last year.

Following closely to the PlayStation 4’s PC-equivalent hardware, Death Stranding works ideally at 60 FPS at 1080p across all levels, with an option to reach 4K resolutions. Running the game smoothly requires at least an Intel i7-3770 or AMD Ryzen 5 1600. Surprisingly, the game only uses as much as 8GB of RAM while it would take a GTX 1060 to make the most out of Sam Porter’s adventures (and shiny cutscenes).

But players might need to consider making some space on their hard drives as the game takes up around 80GB.

Otherwise, players without a GTX 1060 or above can still have a console-like experience with a 1050ti to run Death Stranding at 1080p at 30fps. Players with an i5-4460 or AMD Ryzen 5 1400 are also covered without hitting a full 60fps, but keep its graphical fidelity. These middle-spec requirements suggest builds all the way from 2015 still hold their own, especially for Kojima’s FOX engine which saw a few upgrades from 2015’s Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain.

Minimum spec users with an i5-3470 or AMD Ryzen 3 1200 can even run the game at a 720p resolution at 30fps with the GTX 1050 with 3GB of VRam, or an AMD Radeon RX 560 with 4GB VRam. Though there are some compromises with a dipped resolution, players would still get to play through the game with less draw distance – something that might get in the way of Death Stranding‘s exploration. Cutscenes would still get to keep their depth, though textures would have less details.

If the game offered a dynamic resolution option, minimum and middle spec users could possibly reach 45fps with the throttling of graphics for performance on the spot. But over its PC version, players can tweak their settings for quality or frames accordingly. It’s still unknown if Death Stranding supports RTX ray-tracing for enthusiasts. But following on the heels of MGSV‘s PC port, it’s expected that Kojima would consider an uncapped frame rate setting to fit the flow of 140Hz and 240Hz monitors.

First announced in March 2020, PC owners would also receive additional content in a collaboration with Valve’s VR game Half-Life: Alyx. Porter can be customized with Alyx Vance’s “The Russels” gravity gloves and wear a headcrab because of reasons.

“A familiar face has crossed over into the world of DEATH STRANDING, impersonating Bridges’ employees and sending request emails prompting Sam to locate and secure companion cubes throughout the world,” the release wrote.

“Completing these requests will reveal the mystery behind the friendly imposter and award Sam with useful new equipment and accessories.”

Death Stranding comes out for PC on July 14, 2020, and can be available to pre-order over Steam and the Epic Games Store before then. Luckily, PC users anticipating the port probably won’t need to make major upgrades to be a part of Kojima’s latest experience.
