Enjoy these RPG's while sitting in the sun all summer long

Looking to sit outside in the sun and become honey bronzed and desirable but also play video games at the same time this summer? Of course you are, that’s why I’ve put together a list of RPGS for the Switch that will turn suntanning into a treat not a chore. These games will absorb you like your skin absorbing the heat rays from the hot hot sun.

Charge up your Nintendo Switch, pack a blanket, lather on sunscreen, grab a big bottle of water and get out to your nearest park to play some amazing games. Every one of these games I’ve lost myself in for hours if not days and I encourage you to do the same. Tanning is a lot better when you feel like you’re accomplishing something and that’s just a fact.

Cosmic Star Heroine

Cosmic Star Heroine – Zeboyd Games

Cosmic Star Heroine is one of the best RPGs I’ve ever played. It’s inspired by Lunar: The Silver Star, Phantasy Star IV and Chrono Trigger to name a few and is chalk full of humour and heart. It’s self-aware and not afraid of poking fun at traditional RPG tropes while also maintaining an engaging wonderful story.

It’s only 15 or so hours along making it the shortest game on this list and the most accessible for non-rpg fans. Cosmic Star Heroine is all I could ever ask for in a modern-day interpretation of a classic JRPG. With excellent combat, an intriguing story and a killer soundtrack, this is the game to play this summer.

Divinity: Original Sin II

Divinity: Original Sin II – Larian Studios

Divinity: Original Sin II is the exact opposite of Cosmic Star Heroine. It is incredibly long. Like if I posted up in my nearest park I wouldn’t finish this game till winter and my face would be on the side of a milk carton.

Divinity is an RPG developed and published by Larian Studios who are currently working on Baldur’s Gate III.  Divinity has a way of sucking you in for hours with its addicting gameplay and reminds me of that year I did nothing but play Skyrim and eat Mr. Noodles.

Having played on both the Xbox One and Nintendo Switch I can say in handheld mode I was squinting quite a bit but it wasn’t enough to deter me from playing for 7 hours straight on the first day of revisiting it. This is a must-play title for fans of the genre as it has deep tactical combat that will leave you feeling challenged to the very last fight.

Ni no Kuni: Wrath of The White Witch

Ni no Kuni: Wrath of The White Witch – Namco Bandai Games

Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch is a stunning game that is as fun to play, as it is to look at. Ni no Kuni remains one of my absolute favourite game series of all time with its wonderful stories, vibrant cast of characters and it’s animated sequences which were created by Studio Ghibli.

If you have a young child looking to get into the RPG world or are looking to relive your adolescence take out a pen and add this to your must-have list. The Switch port is from 2011 but it holds hope incredibly well. If I hadn’t said the word port you might have believed it was a Nintendo exclusive by the way it shines. Now I’m just waiting for an official announcement of Ni no Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom on the Switch so I can revisit Ding Dong Dell under the shade of a willow tree.

Bug Fables: The Everlasting Sapling

Bug Fable: The Everlasting Sapling – Moonsprout Games

Are you one of the people who have been tweeting Nintendo that they should release A) Paper Mario Thousand Year Door or B) Give us a new good Paper Mario? First off you are not alone, second off Bug Fable is for you. Recently released on consoles Bug Fables is Paper Mario if Mario was a bug. It’s shocking to me that more games haven’t copied this simplistic gameplay.

Bug Fable could have easily fumbled its whole setup, instead, developers Moonsprout Games created a charming, extremely fun 30+ hour RPG adventure. This is currently on my top 5 games of 2020 list and I’d love to see more from this world in the future. I want to beLEAF we will get a sequel.

If you’re going to sit in the park all day I would also suggest looking good while you do it by giving Ring Fit Adventure a whirl. Exercise is important!

Ring Fit Adventure

Ring Fit Adventure – Nintendo

With the gyms closed and my muscles disappearing leaving me looking like Steve Rogers before he became Captain America, I’ve had to rely on Ring Fit Adventure to keep me sorta fit. The game is an excellent way to work up a sweat but it’s also got a surprisingly deep and fun RPG element to it via story mode. It’s not your traditional RPG experience but it’s a unique one that is constantly being updated. Eventually, we are all going need to leave our houses and you might as well come out a bit fitter and stretchier.

Charge up your switch, put on some cool clothes, be sure to social distance and get out there and game.
