DrDisrespect has been banned from the video platform, however, users are left wondering why. It’s been noted that DrDisrespect’s channel is indeed giving us the dreaded “ghost” message.
High-profile streamer and user, Guy Beahm, AKA DrDisrespect has reportedly been banned from Twitch on Friday afternoon following an announcement by StreamerBans on Twitter. A reason for the removal has not yet been provided, but in a statement to DBLTAP and PC Gamer, a Twitch spokesperson stated the following:
"As is our process, we take appropriate action when we have evidence that a streamer has acted in violation of our Community Guidelines or Terms of Service. These apply to all streamers regardless of status or prominence in the community.”
In March of this year, DrDisrespect signed a multi-year contract with the video streaming platform and community, reportedly worth millions of dollars of income per year. It is unknown how this ban will affect the contract moving forward. Currently, DrDisrespect has an approximate following of 4,448,308 followers on the platform.
With multiple cases of sexual misconduct arising on a daily basis in the gaming industry, Dr Disrespect’s ban comes amid allegations of sexist behaviour and misconduct on the platform.
This is also not Dr Disrespect’s first ban, as he was previously banned in 2019 for a brief period of two weeks as a result of streaming from within a public restroom at E3. The company has faced criticism over how it enforces its rules on larger channels, mainly due to the fact that these channels generate more revenue for the platform, however, it is noted that past infringements are taken into account.
As of 4:23 p.m. ET, Friday, Rod “Slasher” Breslau (@Slasher) has reported that DrDisrespect has been permanently banned from Twitch and that it is not related to a Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) takedown. Twitch has yet to confirm or deny Breslau’s reporting. We have reached out to Twitch for comment, but have heard no further details at the time of posting.
